Improving WASH facilities and practices in Bangladeshi schools: progress and challenges from 2014 to 2018

WASH services in Bangladeshi schools have improved significantly, yet dispa rities exist, particularly in government and rural schools. Although students’ knowledge improved, their practices still need improvements through training on proper WASH practices.

●Main findings: This study highlights the positive trends in water, sanitation and hygiene situation in Bangladeshi schools, which showed sanitation services in Bangladeshi urban and rural schools improved significantly over the years.

●Added knowledge: Moreover, the study found that rural area and government schools still have lower sanitation and hygiene services than urban and non-government schools which demand additional attention.

●Global health impact for policy and action: Where current policies and strategies are emphasizing the infrastructural improvement, student’s practices improvements through training on proper hygiene practices should be emphasized more
