Faridpur Municipality has established South Asia's first municipal-level CWIS Knowledge Corner, a permanent space that documents and preserves the city's journey toward Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS)—an approach that promotes safe, equitable, and sustainable sanitation for everyone. The initiative was developed by ITN-BUET with support from the Gates Foundation under the CWIS Scaling and Innovation Project, and was handed over to the municipality on 6 July 2026.
The Knowledge Corner responds to a common problem: valuable municipal experiences often go undocumented, making it hard to share and repeat successful practices. To address this, it brings together a wide range of resources, including a CWIS and FSM Information Board, a 3D model of the Faridpur Fecal Sludge Treatment Plant, a collection of technical reports and case studies, an achievement gallery, and displays of local innovations and lessons learned.
By preserving knowledge beyond individual projects and staff changes, the Corner strengthens institutional memory, builds municipal capacity, and supports evidence-based decision-making. As one of Bangladesh's six CWIS Mentor Cities, Faridpur now offers a lasting platform for peer learning, technical exchange, and knowledge transfer—helping other municipalities adopt and scale up inclusive sanitation across Bangladesh.
