Sanitalk cafe kicks off with powerful dialogue on inclusive sanitation

The inaugural session of SaniTalk Cafe, a new monthly knowledge-sharing initiative under the SaniRepo platform, was successfully held on 15 July 2025, drawing participation from around 90 professionals across government agencies, NGOs, academia, development partners, and private sector organizations.

Themed “Inclusive Sanitation for All: Reaching the Unserved,” the session created a dynamic virtual space for practitioners to exchange ideas, share field experiences, and discuss strategies for addressing sanitation needs of marginalized and underserved communities, including women, persons with disabilities, and the urban poor.

The session was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Rowshan Mamtaz, Director of ITN-BUET. This was followed by insightful presentations from esteemed speakers representing WaterAid Bangladesh and Water & Sanitation for the Urban Populations (WSUP) who shared practical lessons and experiences in advancing equity and inclusion in urban sanitation. The presentations highlighted the importance of inclusive planning, service delivery innovations, and community engagement in achieving Citywide Inclusive Sanitation (CWIS).

Hosted by ITN-BUET, the session also marked the beginning of a regular series aimed at fostering peer learning and collaboration across the sector. Participants actively engaged through chat discussions and live reflections, reinforcing the value of collective dialogue in driving transformative change. The next session of SaniTalk Cafe will be held on 12 August 2025.

Sanitation journey achieves new heights in the toilet conference 2025

To redefine the future of sanitation, ITN-BUET proudly convened the Toilet Conference 2025 jointly with WaterAid Bangladesh, UNICEF Bangladesh, and SNV, which was held at the InterContinental Dhaka, Bangladesh, from February 25 to 26, 2025. The conference had more than 500 participants from 28 countries, among which 40% were youth and 38% were female.

ITN-BUET advocated modern technologies and inclusion at Toilet Conference 2025

ITN-BUET jointly organized the Toilet Conference 2025 with WaterAid Bangladesh, UNICEF Bangladesh, and SNV. The conference was held at the InterContinental Dhaka, Bangladesh, from February 25 to 26, 2025. There were 4 dedicated Plenary Sessions with prominent experts in the specialized fields as keynote speakers, including 13 technical sessions and 6 oral presentation sessions where a total of 32 research papers were presented.

Innovations in WASH Technologies for climate resilience and emission reduction spotlighted at ICWFM-2025 side event

The session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Rowshan Mamtaz, Director of ITN-BUET, highlighted the need for climate-smart sanitation solutions. Prof. Mamtaz stressed that while addressing emissions is essential, the primary goal of sanitation systems should remain focused on public health, ensuring access to safe sanitation for all, especially in low- and middle-income countries.
